Ermanno Dodaro (Rome, 1963) is an Italian double bassist, guitarist, composer, and writer. The son of a guitarist, he grew up between the regions of Puglia and Calabria. After studying Foreign Languages and Literature at the University of Messina, he decided to devote himself entirely to music, returning to Rome in 1987.
He studied jazz double bass at the Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio and graduated in Classical Double Bass from the Conservatory of Frosinone in 1995. He later continued his studies in composition with Roberto Jantorni.
Throughout his career, Dodaro has composed stage music and film scores, collaborating with renowned directors and performers including Lina Wertmüller, Peter Stein, Giorgio Albertazzi, Luca Zingaretti, Lucia Poli, and Maddalena Crippa. Alongside his work for theatre and film, he has built a significant presence in the Italian jazz and singer-songwriter scene, working with artists such as Tosca, Rossana Casale, and Daniele Sepe, and co-founding the quartet Así with Francesco Consaga and Arturo Valiante.
Alongside his musical career, Dodaro has also devoted himself to writing. In 2020, he published the novel Spostando l'Acqua in un Tuffo, co-authored with Tullia Ranieri, followed by the illustrated collection of fables Animalì.
